Discover the potential in your wardrobe, from replicating favorite clothes to reworking existing garments, mending, over-dying, and delving into pattern-making and reverse-engineering sewing.
In this class, students will learn how to create a paper pattern from their favorite clothes (without disassembling it), and use that to make an entirely new garment. We will also work on existing garments (that students bring in) to rework into something better suited to the desires of the wearer, using practical alteration and mending techniques, to more creative improvements like over-dying and embellishing. We will cover all the cursory knowledge needed for making original garments, such as choosing fabrics, working with paper patterns, and a variety of sewing construction techniques. Students need to have a basic knowledge of the sewing machine for this class, and some garment-making skills would be helpful, but every technique will be taught in a beginner-friendly format.
